The idea actually goes back to the early 1970s with the Unix operating system 💻. A computer scientist named Doug McIlroy realized that instead of writing massive, complex programs that tried to do everything, it was much more efficient to write small, simple programs that did one thing perfectly. He introduced the concept of "pipes" to pass data from one small program directly into the next, just like a factory assembly line 🏭.
